Supporting economic growth and job creation for all Australians
The Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources is integral to the government’s economic agenda.
As Australia manages the impacts of COVID-19 and rebuilds from the pandemic, the department has an important role to play in helping to create a strong, modern, more resilient and productive economy that delivers long-term prosperity.
The department will help drive productivity and economic growth, and to create new jobs and opportunities for Australia.
The resources sector is critical to building Australia’s economic resilience. The Government is committed to supporting ongoing private investment and support for mineral exploration.
To ensure our resources sector remains resilient to international trade challenges, the Government’s $20.1m Global Resources Strategy will help diversify and strengthen Australia’s resources exports in established and emerging markets. It will also promote Australia’s resources sector as an attractive investment destination, and a reliable and responsible supplier to the world.
Queensland has a vision for a future resources industry that is resilient, responsible, and sustainable. For a resources industry that grows as it transforms.
Right now, Queensland is already Australia’s resources powerhouse, with endless investment opportunities, world-class assets and a strong and stable legacy of discovery and development.
We have an abundance of the minerals, metals and traditional energy resources—metallurgical and thermal coal and gas—that the world needs. We have a sophisticated and well-established network of infrastructure and facilities, a highly skilled workforce and high-quality mining equipment, technology, and services.
Importantly, we also have a proven rigorous regulatory framework that facilitates economic development in the public benefit.
And as the world rapidly moves towards a decarbonised economy, we also have the new economy minerals (also known critical minerals) that global markets need to produce green technologies that will help them meet climate change targets.
With a strong and stable local economy, and a government committed to driving economic prosperity and a sustainable resources industry – all while preserving Queensland's unmatched lifestyle, attractions and natural wonders – this state really is the place to be.

We work together with our business partners and diverse stakeholders to unlock the sustainable value that those resources represent for our shareholders, the communities and countries in which we operate, and for society as a whole. Anglo American is re-imagining mining to improve people’s lives.
For almost 150 years, Rio Tinto has been working to create materials the world needs: Aluminium for lightweight cars. Copper to help things work more efficiently – from renewables to the power in your home. Iron ore for the steel in the electricity infrastructure. Lithium for electric vehicles and battery storage. And many of the materials they produce are essential for the things in everyday life, too: Borates that help crops grow, titanium for paint – and diamonds that celebrate the best things in life.
More information on Rio Tinto’s growth, history, products, operations, sustainability commitments and investments can be found at riotinto.com.
We look forward to hearing all about Rio Tinto’s initiatives and innovations at the 2023 Congress.
