Sponsored Symposia

Monday 26 June

Presenter:
ARC Centre for Transforming Maintenance Through Data Science
Title:
Technical Language Processing and Knowledge Graphs Demystified
Fee:
$250
Time:
09:00 – 17:00
Facilitator:
Wei Liu – Associate Professor, Sirui Li – Research Fellow
Synopsis:
How long do you spend looking for information in unstructured text fields in the various company databases you need to access to perform your role? Finding the right records is only half the issue, you then need to code and extract it for downstream processing. What if you could reliably have a computer do this, at scale, and with consistent results? This workshop provides an overview of state of the art in technical language processing. It describes the motivation and explains key concepts relating to natural language processing of technical texts, knowledge graphs and ontologies. While the examples used will relate to asset maintenance data, the concepts are applicable to safety records, geology and other technical texts.

Title:
The Data Fit Organisation: A New Approach to Building Data Capability and Value from Data
Fee:
$250
Time:
09:00 – 13:00
Facilitator:
Zane Prickett – Industry Partner, Keyao Li – Research Fellow
Synopsis:
All organisations are investing in capability to deliver business outcomes through standardised processes that leverage data, or 'data workflows'. A data workflow describes the way organisations work to realise business value through data. It is role-led, with everyone in the organisation having a data role. Understanding the roles and capabilities along a data workflow forms the basis of a ‘Data Fit Organisation’. The training, provided by CORE Skills in collaboration with the Future of Work Institute, will detail a new approach called 'lean for data' for delivering value through data. Also outlined will be a methodology for mapping data capability in an organisation. Participants will have the opportunity to map an industrial data workflow, identify requisite roles and capabilities, and understand how to overcome the challenges of enabling and embedding data workflows in their business.

Accenture
Title:
Don’t just connect the dots, draw a better picture!
Room:
Plaza Terrace Room, Plaza Level
Time:
13:00 – 13:45
Speaker:
Synopsis:
Applying a proven delivery framework, underpinned by integrated data, to effectively manage capital projects from Design- through to Operational Phases. In our presentation we will share some practical examples and frameworks across the Mining, Metals and EPC industries, breaking down the discreet siloes to unlock the value of data to drive efficiencies, reduce costs and effectively manage risk over the project- and asset- lifecycle.

Presenter:
Australia Minerals and featuring senior speakers from the Australian government geoscience organisations
Title:
Facing the future: What would the world look like without enough copper (and what can we do to change that)?
Room:
S1, Sky Level
Time:
13:00 – 13:45
Speaker:
Synopsis:
Join the Australian Government geoscience organisations (Australia Minerals) for a special one-off informative and interactive panel session where we ask the question ‘what would the world look like without enough copper’? Hear how Australia’s geological surveys are collaborating, innovating and using the latest technology to explore for the minerals needed to transition to net-zero. At the session you will have the opportunity to engage with senior representatives of Australia’s geological surveys and understand what makes Australia one of the world’s leading mining jurisdictions.

Thursday 29 June

Presenter:
IBM
Title:
Mining of the Future: using advanced technologies to drive sustainability and operational efficiency
Room:
Sky Room, Sky Level
Time:
07:00 - 07:45
Speaker:
David Small – Sustainability Software Leader – IBM Australia; Paris Cockinos – CEO – Sphere Drones; Scott McGowan, CEO Cosol; Steve Hillard, General Manager, QLD, NT & PNG, Pronto Software
Synopsis:
Join us for breakfast and a glimpse into the future! We will start this session with an interactive demonstration from IBM partner Sphere Drones to show how advanced robotic and drone technology can remotely and autonomously monitor visual, audio, and olfactory inputs and then apply AI to allow better decision making, cost and workforce optimisation, and increased workforce safety. Then will hear from David Small, Sustainability Software Leader, IBM Australia and a panel of IBM partners speakers working in the mining industry on: Use of AI and Machine Learning to transform workforce productivity, Automated and autonomous systems for increased workforce safety and efficiency, Data and AI to drive down costs, extend asset life, and reduce asset down time, Embedded AI to enable companies to bring novel AI solutions into production faster at reduced cost with fit-for-purpose pre-built APIs. This will be followed by time to discuss the opportunities and challenges raised with the industry peers at your table.

Presenter:
ALS
