Abstract Submissions Extended to 29 April 2022
Due to the high volume of requests for additional time we have reopened the abstract portal until 29 April 2022. Our Program Committee will now send notification to authors by 30 June 2022.
It is our strong desire to encourage our mining and resources community to reunite in Brisbane in 2023, as connecting and sharing our knowledge is the core essence of the World Mining Congress. However, we understand that physical travel may not be possible for some delegates and we will take this opportunity to also announce that remote participation will be facilitated.
Mining experts from around the globe will converge in Brisbane to share their research and technological developments for the betterment of our sector. There are 12 specific streams addressing the most critical issues on which we are keen to receive the highest quality and content abstracts. Congress Streams
We invite additional abstracts from all corners of the globe to ensure the best possible world representation. The extension of the Call for Abstracts will be the final opportunity for you to be a part of the WMC 2023 program. You must submit an abstract for consideration.
The decision to travel and register is not required for some months. The recent opening of the Australian borders is a major step towards the prospect of gathering together in Brisbane for this epic event. WMC 2023 will continue to update you regularly with key information. However, we urge you to check your home country policy and monitor the Australian border information here. We are encouraging you all to join us in Brisbane to network and provide a vibrant in-person environment.

WMC 2023 acknowledges International Women’s Day
The International Women’s Day 2022 theme – Changing Climates: Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow – has wonderful synergies with the goals and aspirations of WMC 2023.
International Women’s Day 2022 recognises the contribution of women and girls around the world who are working to change the climate of gender equality and build a sustainable future.
WMC 2023 already has three confirmed female Plenary Speakers – Cathy Foley, Australia’s Chief Scientist; Tanya Constable, Minerals Council of Australia CEO; and Deborah Terry, Vice Chancellor and President of The University of Queensland. We anticipate strong participation from women in a number of the Congress Streams, most particularly that of Future Workforce & Education.
The Future Workforce & Education Congress Stream at WMC 2023 will include discussions around building an inclusive, diverse and respectful work environment, and attraction and retention of skilled workers.
WMC 2023 aims to recognise the important role of women in mining and support greater diversity in the sector globally.

Diamonds are WMC 2023 Best Friend
Rio Tinto confirms Diamond Sponsorship for the World Mining Congress 2023
For almost 150 years, Rio Tinto has been working to create materials the world needs: Aluminium for lightweight cars. Copper to help things work more efficiently – from renewables to the power in your home. Iron ore for the steel in the electricity infrastructure. Lithium for electric vehicles and battery storage. And many of the materials they produce are essential for the things in everyday life, too: Borates that help crops grow, titanium for paint – and diamonds that celebrate the best things in life.
More information on Rio Tinto’s growth, history, products, operations, sustainability commitments and investments can be found at riotinto.com. We look forward to hearing all about Rio Tinto’s initiatives and innovations at the 2023 Congress.
